February 11th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of February on Monday, February 11th, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Randall Maddux and Councilmember Marquetta Madden led the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

The February 11th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance........................... $3,381,665.52
  • Total deposits all funds................................................. $1,587,397.34
  • Total expenditures all funds............................................$459,3072.93
  • Total on-hand all funds.................................................. $4,509,754.93

During the Mayor’s Communications, Councilmember Cooper presented a proclamation recognizing Mr. Bobby L. Reid as part of the city’s Black History Month. Councilmember Maddux read a proclamation declaring Feb 16-22 as 2019 Arbor Week in the City of Valley.

The following actions were taken by the city council at the February 11th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the January 28th, 2019, council meeting
  • Accepted the February 11th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2019-019R accepting a bid of $500 from Christopher L. Nelson for a 1998 GMC 2500 Planning and Development vehicle that had been declared as surplus
    • Resolution 2019-020R accepting a bid of $104,039.65 from Gunderson Pool Plastering, Inc. for replastering the pool and spa at the Valley Community Center Aquatics Center and a bid of $25,500 from Precision Floor Care for resurfacing the pool deck at the Valley Community Center Aquatics Center.
    • Resolution 2019-021R authorizing Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon to enter into a renewable  $1,700 maintenance and support contract with DataWorks Plus, LLC to provide standard software and hardware support for the Valley Police Department
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-022R awarding Captain  David L. Smith, upon his impending retirement, his service weapon and badge as allowed under the provisions of Section 36-21-8 of the code of Alabama, 1975 and authorizing Police Chief Tommy Weldon to execute, on behalf of the city, any and all documents necessary to transfer the weapon to Captain Smith
  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously on its first reading Ordinance 2019-01 assenting to the annexation of East Alabama Water Sewer  & Fired Protection District into the City of Valley

The following candidates for the vacant District 1 council seat addressed the council:

  • Jim Clark
  • Bo Colley
  • Jay Foster

The mayor made the following announcements:

        1. The next council meeting will be February 25th at 6:00pm at Valley City Hall
        2. A work session will be held February 21st at 6:00pm at Valley City Hall

Council adjourned at 6:35PM.
