The City of Valley Municipal elections were held Tuesday, August 28, with a new mayor and three new councilmembers being elected. One incumbent was reelected and one incumbernt faces a run-off. District 2 Councilmember Jim Jones and District 5 Councilmember Henry Cooper ran unopposed.
In the mayoral race, former Chambers County School Superintendent Leonard Riley was elected over former Valley City Clerk Martha Cato and District 1 Councilmember O'Neal Shaw. The new councilmembers elected were Paul Story in District 1, Randall Maddux in District 3, and Lana Wiggins in District 5. Incumbent Jimmy Gilson won reelection in District 7 and incumbent Marquetta Madden will face a run-off with Justin Brown on October 9 for the District 4 seat.
The Mayor's race and the races for Districts 1, 3, 5, and 7 were all won by decisive margins. The race for the District 4 seat was the only closely contested race.
The new administration will take office on November 5.
